GUIDE: A Guide to Men’s Enhancement Underwear

Men’s enhancement underwear is finally nolonger a taboo subject. Whilst people may scorn at the mention of it, they’d be very surprised that thousands of people are searching for enhancement underwear on the internet. Why should the Wonderbra be acceptable for women but the equivalent not be acceptable for men?

There is an ever increasing range of male enhancement underwear products on the market. It may be hidden away or not even feature in your local department store but here at VOCLA, we have hundreds of enhancement styles to choose from, available in a wide range of brands.

The technologies used have changed slightly over time. Each technology works in a different way and can have different benefits and disadvantages. One guy’s circumstances are not the same as another, so it’s best to take some time to consider the type of enhancement underwear that you need to suit your requirements. With this guide, we will take you through the different types of enhancement underwear, to help you decide which is best for your needs.

Benefits of Enhancement Underwear

Traditional men’s underwear had a pouch design which was flat fronted so your package was squashed and left somewhere between your legs – just the part where it’s warm and sweaty!

To enhance the crotch area, male enhancement underwear needs to move the package upwards and outwards, away from the body, or to at least give that appearance. So there is the first benefit – lift and support. And by lifting the package away from the body, there is less sticking and sweating, so there are also health benefits. Overall, there is mixture of both vanity and health benefits:

  • Lift and support, so you don’t have that dangling feeling
  • Lower temperatures, therefore less sweating
  • More space in the pouch, so that’s less squashing – good for those well-endowed guys and apparently less squashing makes you more fertile
  • Rounder and fuller pouch appearance, giving you an improved profile, especially if you like to wear baggy clothing
  • Reduced sticking

Those that say that enhancement underwear is just a gimmick may now go and eat their hats! Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!

Enhancement underwear is not just confined to the front pouch. Let’s not forget that there is also bum enhancement underwear. To create that lovely bubble butt look, bum enhancement underwear gives you reshaping and lifting benefits. These benefits are much more vanity focused, rather than health benefits.

The Four Types of Enhancement Underwear

1. Push Up Underwear

Push-up underwear lifts the front package, moving it upwards and outwards, away from the body. The benefits are support, reduced sticking and sweating.

In our opinion, push-up underwear is the best form of front enhancement underwear if your objective is simply to boost the size of your front profile. The Andrew Christian Show-It range, boasts an increase of 1.5” onto your front measurements, so that’s quite a boost!

There are also a few disadvantages. Some guys find the lifting feeling a little difficult to get used to and sometimes uncomfortable, so it can be a compromise. We would recommend focusing on styles that have soft elastic around the lifting area as this will provide some flexibility and better comfort.

The ‘lifting’ is achieved in different ways by the different brands:

a) External straps – a strap circles underneath the outside of the pouch, like a sling, holding the package upwards from underneath. The Modus Vivendi Boost style is a good example of this. These styles have a booster strap on the outside of the pouch, fastened to the underwear with metallic studs on either side of the pouch. The booster strap lifts the package from underneath, providing support.

b) Internal straps – these are exactly the same as the external straps but they are not visible on the outside of the underwear. Sometimes the strap sits underneath the package, like a sling, pushing it upwards, in the same way as the Modus Vivendi Boost styles. An example would be the C-IN2 Sling design which has a button to adjust the size of the sling and therefore the amount of lifting. Sometimes the straps circle around the whole package, which is known as a ‘c-ring’ design.

Things to consider:

  • Wider straps/slings will be more comfortable
  • Elasticated and softer straps/slings will provide more comfort and flexibility
  • Are the straps adjustable, providing different levels of enhancement?

c) U-shaped material – the entrance to the pouch has a piece of U-shaped material which your package sits over. This U-shape is tightened so it lifts you upwards. It is also elasticated for comfort and some flexibility. These U-shaped fabric panels are not adjustable, like some of the above strap techniques, and therefore the level of enhancement cannot be changed. However, these panel designs tend to be more comfortable than the straps. Both Andrew Christian and ADDICTED use this form of push-up technology. The Andrew Christian Show-It collection was initially launched with internal straps but after the first line was released, it was changed to this U-shaped fabric panel design and has remained so since. It claims to provide enhancement of up to 1.5 inches and it’s one of their most popular collections.

Things to consider:

  • Is the panel elasticated to provide additional comfort and flexibility?

d) Pockets – there is a pocket inside the pouch area which lifts the package upwards and outwards. It behaves like a cup around the package, which can be more comfortable compared to a strap lifting only part of the package. Aussiebum developed this pocket design with their Wonderjock range but it hasn’t yet been implemented with many other brands.

2. Padded Underwear

Padded underwear has a piece of padding inserted into the front pouch area. Sometimes the padding is removable. The padding comes in various sizes but it is really the shape of the padding, rather than the thickness or size, which causes the best results. The benefit of padded underwear is that it creates a fuller and rounder profile appearance. If it is properly shaped, it will make the pouch appear full and round.

Padding in relation to enhancement underwear is soft, to provide comfort. There are underwear products with hard padding in the pouch but these are sports cups, designed to provide protection in team sports. They are not enhancement underwear products.

The disadvantages of padded underwear relate to the amount of available space in the pouch. If the padding is thick, it will take much of the space away, leaving you squashed. The padding can also act as a layer of insulation, increasing the temperature and therefore sticking and sweating.

A good example of padded men’s underwear is the ADDICTED Pack Up range which has a relatively thin piece of well-shaped padding inserted into the front pouch. This can be removed if required. It’s foam padding for great comfort but it’s also relatively thin so the disadvantages of higher temperatures are reduced and the padding doesn’t take up much pouch space.

Things to consider:

  • Softer padding will provide more comfort
  • Thinner but better shaped padding will provide more space and remove the disadvantages associated with warmer temperatures

 3. Pouch Underwear

Pouch underwear encompasses a wide range of different styles. The design of the pouch can make a huge difference to the appearance of the front profile as well as your comfort. However, across the different styles are a wide range of benefits, so we have split pouch underwear into different categories:

a) Contour pouch underwear – contour pouches have a vertical seam down the front which reshapes and strengthens the pouch, providing some support. This is a relatively gentle type of enhancement pouch so if you want some support and minor enhancement, rather than extreme enhancement, this would be a good option. Some brands that offer contour pouches in their designs are PUMP! and CIN2.

b) Natural pouch underwear – this is also known as ‘anatomically correct’ underwear. The cut of the underwear is such that the pouch is larger and longer than a standard pouch. The pouch therefore provides extra space and allows you to hang free. It has the opposite effect to push-up underwear – there is no lifting or support whatsoever here. It is therefore not strictly enhancement underwear. However, the larger pouch is very visible and usually protrudes outwards, fully showing off your package. It is therefore less about enhancing what you have and more about showing off what you already have. It is a very comfortable form of underwear. The extra space not only gives you more room to fit in but it reduces sweating, sticking, squashing and chafing. However, if you have a small package, we really would not recommend this type of pouch underwear as you won’t fill the pouch, leaving it looking wrinkled and empty, not the best look! The best example of natural pouch underwear is the Andrew Christian Almost Naked collection.

c) Large pouch underwear – the pouch of the underwear is made larger to provide more space for well-endowed guys, reducing squashing, sweating and sticking. Similar to natural pouch underwear, it less about enhancing what you have and more about showing off what you already have. The best example of large pouch underwear is the Andrew Christian Trophy Boy collection which is the same as the Almost Naked collection but with a larger pouch.

4. Bum Enhancing Underwear

Enhancement underwear is not all about the front pouch, you can also enhance the rear. Bum enhancement underwear lifts or reshapes the buttocks, enhancing their profile, helping you to create a rounder ‘bubble butt’ appearance. There are two ways that this can be achieved:

  1. Lifting straps – straps are sewn into the inside seams of the underwear. Similar to jock straps, they are usually elasticated, providing support and lifting the buttocks upwards. A good example is the Andrew Christian FlashLIFT range which has internal lifting straps. The Modus Vivendi Boost boxer has jock straps on the outside of the underwear. The disadvantages with lifting straps relate to the comfort of having straps lifting you upwards. These straps can sometimes dig into your buttocks a little too much.
  2. Reshaping padding – soft padding is inserted into the seams of the underwear. This reshapes the buttocks, making them appear rounder. The disadvantages relate to the wear and tear over time, the ability of the pads to keep their shape.

Which is the Best Enhancement Underwear?

There is no answer to ‘which is best?’ It depends on the circumstances but here are a few generalities:

  • Push up underwear – best for providing maximum enhancement, support and lifting
  • Padded underwear – best for creating a fuller and rounder pouch appearance but no lifting or support
  • Pouch underwear – best for overall comfort and space but providing the least enhancement
